Apricot kernel oil spreads quickly, softens heavier ingredients, and leaves a light coating rather than adding firmness. It is a triglyceride oil—a common type of plant oil—led by oleic and linoleic fatty acids, with smaller amounts of palmitic and stearic acids.
Because the oil stays liquid at room temperature, crystal formation is not the main stability concern. Oxidation—staling caused by heat, air, and light—is more important because its unsaturated fats are more delicate than highly saturated fats. In the finished product, it leaves a light softening film rather than a dense protective barrier.
Sourcing
Choose fresh cosmetic-grade oil with a mild odor, an expected color, and clear lot and storage information. Refined oil is usually paler and milder. Cold-pressed unrefined oil may have a stronger natural scent and color and needs careful storage away from heat, air, and light.
