Arrowroot or Tapioca Starch

Overview

Arrowroot or tapioca starch is the soft-focus version of dry touch. It can make a beard butter feel less greasy and more powdery without using a mineral clay.

It still behaves like a powder. It needs even dispersion, restrained use, and real residue testing. Use it for finish control, not as a fix for a formula that is too heavy everywhere else.

For the Science Hippies

Arrowroot and tapioca starches are plant-derived powders used to make a product feel drier and less greasy on skin and beard. They can disperse in anhydrous formulas, but they do not dissolve into oils.

The practical challenge is smoothness. A little starch can reduce grease; too much can pill, drag, or leave visible residue. The best use is in soft butters and balms that already have enough slip.
