Overview
A small amount of arrowroot or tapioca starch can make a beard butter feel less greasy and leave a light powdery finish without using a mineral clay.
The starch does not dissolve into oil. Sift it and mix until no clumps or gritty spots remain, then test for resistance during application and pale residue under facial hair. Use it to adjust the finish, not to add firmness or rescue a formula with too much oil or butter.
