Behentrimonium methosulfate (BTMS) belongs in a conditioner, leave-in, or cream, not a simple beard oil or wax balm. A BTMS formula combines oil and water portions, so it needs suitable heating, preservation, and compatibility checks.

BTMS can make beard hair easier to comb and leave it softer and easier to control. The exact grade matters: BTMS-25 and BTMS-50 contain different amounts of active conditioning ingredient and are not interchangeable gram for gram.
