Dimethicone

Overview

Dimethicone is a practical way to add slip without turning every formula into a heavier oil blend. It gives a smooth, low-tack finish and can make waxy products feel more refined during pickup and spread.

The decision point is grade and use rate. Light grades can make a serum or leave-in glide faster, while heavier grades can add cushion. Think of it in sensory terms: smoother spread, cleaner glide, and protective feel.

For the Science Hippies

Dimethicone is a silicone fluid or gum family chosen by viscosity grade. It contributes a smooth, low-tack film and can reduce drag in anhydrous and emulsion formulas when the grade matches the product texture.

The grade matters. A low-viscosity dimethicone can improve spread in a leave-in or serum, while a heavier grade can make a balm feel more cushioned. Supplier guidance should drive percentage and processing.
